Best things to write about when pleading for a grant.?

Answer:
What to write in a grant application

1. You have to explain how your purpose for applying for the grant fits well with the objectives set out by the grant. Grants have objectives, and the grant applications that best capture the grant's objectives are approved.

There is a stringent review process through a committee, especially for federal and state grants. You will compete with other applicants for the grant money, and this grant review committee will evaluate the merits of each proposal. Only those that they feel exemplifies the objective of the grant will be approved.

For example, Microsoft gives grant monies in support of Community-Based Technology and Learning Center http://www.microsoft.com/citizenship/giv. -- hence your grant application should spell out the learning center you are planning to establish, who is its target audience, and how will the learning center improve the community.

2. You must fit with the eligibility requirements set forth by the grant. Carefully read the qualification requirements, and apply only if you fit the bill. Most grants call for non profits organizations to apply, so if you are thinking of getting a grant to pay your bills, then you're better off looking for other sources of funds.

For example, the grants given by Dell Foundation http://www.dell.com/content/topics/globa. -- they specifically state that the
recipients are 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and objective is to address the health and human services, the education, and the technology access for youth. Specifically says that they do NOT provide grants for individuals. If you are an individual and not a 501C3 organization, then you don't stand any chance of getting approved

One thing to understand is that the government and even private foundations giving grants is NOT in the business of giving away free money for the sake of giving away money. Grants are free, but it means OBLIGATION. You will be obligated to do as the grant sets out to do. Grants have objectives, and your purpose must fit the objective of the grant.

Unlike the myths that some perpetuate, federal government and even private foundations hardly give grant money for a for-profit business or for personal purposes such as paying bills or buying cars. In fact, stay away from organizations that tell you that you can get a grant for whatever purpose you are thinking of. That's simply not true.

You need to assure them that their money will be well-spent. I'm not sure what kind of grant you're applying for, whether business, educational or arts, but they always want to see you have a well-developed plan of action, well-articulated, achieveable goals and can show some previous success in past attempts in the same field or some progress on your own toward your goal. Show you've got the proper background (whether via education, life or job experience) to do well, and show evidence of research you've done to show you know how to go about getting where you want to go. Give your reasons why you want to accomplish what the grant would provide funds for and why achieving that goal will lead to bigger and better things for you, such as making you self-sufficient, getting you a better job, allowing you to develop necessary skills, or help people.
