I would like to know how to improve my credit report and score.?

I was married for a long time to a man who would not help me with financial things and now I am getting divorced and trying to start over. My credit score is around 537 and I want to improve it and make my life better. What do I do? Where do I begin? I can not even rent a washer and dryer.. I have repossessed cars and other bills. I want to get rid of all this junk but I don't know what to do.

Answer:
As simplistic as it sounds responsible money management will pay off. Paying your bills on time and not bouncing checks is the only way to repair your credit. Make an appointment with Consumer Credit Counseling Service. The will help you prioritize your spending, provide you with options, and help you recover your good credit.

Good luck!

Credit Report Myth or Reality

Read this article it can help.

You'll need to get your credit report and look it over. Decide what is accurate and dispute the others.
Do not apply for anything..that lowers your points too.

Good Luck.
look into the credit section on this page
scroll down a little to find it

First off, do NOT pay money for a credit repair service. Every one of them is a scam, none will do anything you cannot do yourself.

Get a copy of your credit reports from all three reporting companies.
Equifax - http://www.equifax.com/
Experian - http://www.experian.com/
TransUnion - http://www.transunion.com/

Carefully review every item on all three reports. There is a very good chance that there will be false info. If any negative information is inaccurate (such as a late payment listed for the wrong month), dispute it. You can file disputes on-line at the addresses above.

If the ethics of it don't bother you, dispute EVERY negative item whether it's accurate or not.

For every dispute you file, the reporting creditor must provide evidence within 30 days showing that it is accurate, or the credit reporting company must delete the item from your report.

It is very common for credit scores to be artificially low due to inaccurate data on credit reports.
