my goals? not go broke.
are you asking to get an idea what you might do?
first, pay off any credit cards. that's a no-brainer.
then you need to generate some extra money to invest.
everyone will tell you "depends on how old you are."
young = take more risk, you have time.
old = be conservative, you don't have time to earn it back again, if you really screw up.
you might read "rich dad, poor dad"
it's fairly interesting.
and it's available on CD in the library, in case you're lazy.

like cooking, and good at it, consider a restaurant.
like working with your hands, consider property management.
i went to the local mensa "investment group" and was not particularly impressed.
if you're a good reader, and okay at math, you might look for a local "investment club".
if you do that, you have to work, but my understanding is that they do fairly well. Some of them, at least. Probably not all.
being able to (a) read, (b) work, and (c) do math, is a big plus.
if you cannot do those, then look for someone to help you.
what i did was put some money to 4 different places, and whittle it down to whoever did the best.
these days, it's pretty much in one place.
you'll notice that the stock market is fairly stagnant.
property has been good for the past 10 years.
today it's not the same.
to say that investing today is a challenge doesn't indicate the half of it.

long and short -- at least 500K in liquid assets in the next 20 years.
with no debt, should be a piece of cake!

I'm on the drive for 55. I love my business and the work I do. I want to work becuase I get bored and restless without it, BUT.
I want to be done by 55. At 55 my children will be through college, my house will be paid off, and I'll be virtually debt free. At that point, with my savings, my investments, business ventures, and selloff of assetts in my business; I'll be a millionaire and ready to chill around the world.
I want to spend months at a time travelling around the world. I want to have at least 2 homes within the US. One home in a tropical region and one home in a winter region. I want to live in an Italian villa for a year. I want to visit several countries and cities by cruise ships only. I want to spend a month in New Zealand. I want to scuba the Great Barrier Reef at my leisure and walk across the outback. I want to do it all and plan too.
