In the US, it's *appalling*.
$9400 each in credit card debt, $14,500 per household in non-mortgage debt. Almost all of it the result of people being unable to understand the concept of living beneath their means -- a family that earns $100k per year will find a way to live as if they earn $101k per year. Stupid.

I'm sure that no one will answer this question and be honest with you. I have no debt, but I'll bet the average person in the us is at least 50000 to 100000. dollars
depends on the culture. if you go to japan, or china, they dont have debt 99% of the population.
Unfortunately, we live in a "gotta have it now" society. Many people want to buy now & pay later. It's sad, but true. The average American owes $9200 in credit card debt. This doesn't count auto loans, home loans, etc.
Work hard, spend less, and pay cash!
