Inheritance question?

has eny one ever heard of having to sign a waver before getting your inheritence.my grand mother left a will stating all of us grandkids and kids would divide her estate, their are 8 of us.but the lawyer wont let us have it until all of the people on the will sign some sort of waver.no one will tell me eny thing about it.what could the waver possibly be for? thanks

Answers:
DO NOT SIGN ANY WAIVER UNTIL YOU KNOW WHAT IT IS!!!

I have heard of COUNTLESS scams where the attorney's do things like that, and what the people are actually signing is basically they are signing over their rights and the attorney ends up taking everything!!! DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING UNTIL YOU HAVE ALL OF THE PAPERWORK AND FINE PRINT AND KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE SIGNING!!!

and get COPIES of EVERYTHING!!!

Good luck!!
why would a sign a damn thing in your life with out knowing what your signing for dummy
Do not sign anything unless you know exactly what it is for and what it stipulates. If need be (such as if there is a great deal of money at stake), get your own attorney to advise you.
It could be a waiver of your right to challenge the remaining portion of the estate. If you are not certain of the waiver I suggest you bring your own attorney with you.
It could be for anything. Get a copy and review it; he works for the estate; that's you. If you're not sure, have an atty review it.
The waiver states that nobody is contesting the will. If all sign it you are good to go. If someone disagrees with the will the will has to go to probate. At that point only a judge can determine who gets what.
I would most certainly ask to see the waver and make sure you understand what your signing..contact the attorney right away... don't sign anything until you see it, read it and understand it.if you don't and the lawyer is not explaining it to you very well...then ask to take it to another attorney..good luck
Hmmm, I would think you'd have to sign something when getting an inheritance.

But you should ask the lawyer what the waiver is about so you are clear on what it is you are doing.

Would hate to stiffed for not knowing all the details.

And maybe someone on here will have the answer for ya.

Good luck in your answer.
I'm a lawyer.
Base on my little knowledge you are going to get lots of unpaid debts from your granny vacations on Las Vegas, 5 stars hotels, large screen t.v. , Macy's debts and more so don't sing it !!!
I had the same thing when my grandmother passed and it was a wavier that stated we would not contest the will. But if I was in your shoes I would make sure thats all it is.
