I'm a US citizen moving to London. How can I open a UK bank account without being a UK citizen?

Most of the time, you need n existing address to open a bank account. Since I don't live in the UK yet, I don't have one. I don't want to incure huge international fee's through my US bank by using my debit card overthere. Does anyone know how I can open a UK bank account?

Also, I don;t want to incure internation fee's on my credit card, how do I go about getting a UK credit card?

Thanks!

Answer:
Check with US bank. Also, Most debit cards with a MasterCard or Visa symbol can be used like a Credit Card. You can also get cash advance with you debit cards at some banks. Although I found out that some banks do not know how or will refuse because you are not a UK citizen. Your bank, plus the bank you are using may charge you a fee for getting a cash advance using a debit card.

If I am not mistaking, I think when using a UK debit cards, there are fees for using it at merchants and atms.

Go to a Citibank and see if you can open an account in the UK.
They will be able to tell you about all the fees.

Everything does cost more in UK compared to our US dollar.
They have American banks in England. Check those out. You can open your account here in the states and then use theirs to make your deposits.etc.
Just go to a bank and ask..
Should not be a problem.
Your US bank may have a UK branch or corresponding bank.
When you get to the U.K.,go to the American Embassy. They will explain how you can do all of this much better.
