Moving from U.K to Canada?
Answer:
Every single one of my European friends that moved to Canada learned to regret it (even the ones from Bosnia, and Slovenia, and wherever). They really don't like it. I don't understand it exactly, I'm not Canadian I'm American. But I'll tell you from them, they don't like it. I wouldn't mind putting you in touch with them, but you can find like-minded people on the Internet. And yet some people like it! I'm not trying to discourage you. I just have to say that I have never met a European in Canada who was happy they were there (of course you're being from the U.K., there's BC, maybe you'd like it.) I moved there, I thought I would like it, after two years I never want to go back. Its a bunch of passive-aggressive beauracratic back-stabbers as far as government is concerned, and a lot of depressed people. My country is a mess but I prefer it socially. The welfare? Lots and lots and lots of paperwork (in Canada I mean).
Welcome :)
It may depend on where you relocate to in Canada
here is the link to Toronto Ontario Works, it should outline some of the requirements and also some numbers to call.
I don't believe it would be an issue that your children are Canadian or not, but if you are Canadian and care for them, you should qualify. The social workers can be tough and there are silly rules with any bureaucracy, there is also a child care supliment available, but they should ask you during any intake interview they do and it provides childcare providers that they approve. However they will seek reasons for being unemployed and so on.
There is also CTC Child Tax credit through the federal government Revenue Canada.
Hope this helps a bit. Cheers
