How can I buy a farm?

I want to buy a farm to raise my children and to take in foster children. We have less than perfect credit, so, I am going to have to come up with a significant amount for a down payment. We make enough right now to be able to put some aside, but we are still living week to week. Does anyone know how to put a budget together to accomplish our goal? I don't consider myself stupid at all, but I just can't seem to do this by myself.

Answer:
First you have to keep track of where all your money is going. Figure out expenses that can't be cut (such as rent/mortgage, car payment, insurance, ect) and then look to save money in places that can be cut (groceries (if you want to live on a farm, maybe you can start your own garden now for veggies), entertainment, clothing, ect)

Also, plan on saving a set amount each week or month and have it automatically taken out of your accounts. You can put in into a "no touch" money markey account or online high yield savings account.

Also, you may want to look into programs to help with buying a house. They have ones if it's your first house, or (at least in my state) for people who want to move out into the country (ie- buying a farm) They can help you get good interest rates and not need as much for a downpayment. Try:

to see if you qualify for any of their programs.
I would suggest setting up direct deposit that will put a certain portion of your and/or your husbands paycheck into an account you don't have easy access to. I have had luck with HSBC.com which is currently paying 5.05%. Of course, everyone's situation is different, so you would have to decide the amount.

By doing this, if you need the money you can get it, but you will have to write them, call them, etc. It tends to stay there better because you can't just whip out a debit card and get to the money.
pay your bills on time and you will find your credit rating will improve, then apply for a goverment grant!
Budgets are nice, but it is like cutting back on smoking, you always look forward to your next smoke. It is a matter of control, control your spending habits. Ask yourself if you really need something or if you can live without it. I found the times I spend out of my house are the times when I spend more money.
Start living a simple life, bike riding, going to parks . I found that to be lots of fun when I was saving.
