Has anyone ever gotten a valid check mailed to them from a bank bud didnt know what it was for?

it was from some company online and they said to take our 10 percent and mail the rest off to the company. It was for 4800 dollars. Just didnt know if this was a scam, because it was a bank of america check and it was made out to my wife

Answers:
Yes, this is a scam.
The checks are from "real" accounts, but the actual check is a forged item.
My company just had this happen two months ago. The sender gives someone a check, you then take it to your bank and "cash" it, and then forward them about $4300 keeping about $500 for your "help". The check then gets returned by B of A for being a bogus check, and your account is charged $4800 plus fees. You are now out over $500.
DO NOT DEPOSIT THIS CHECK!! Contact the company on the check to verify the payment to you, or call B of A to verify the check FIRST if you think it is valid.
have you cashed it? are the funds available? , if so cash it and keep it. Its a scam
It is a SCAM. Call BOA and see if it is a valid routing and/or account #. It won't be.
Yes it is a scam I worked for a bank for about 3 years and always see these come to us. If you are still skeptical about it your best bet is to go to Bank of America and have them verify that it is valid...but more than likely it won't be.
