How soon before I contact about employment?
The manager was not yet in and I made some small talk with her. It seems like a good place to work, it's close to home and gas prices wouldn't effect me as much.
I turned in my resume and hand written application the same day I did their online application.
My question is "Should I call and talk to the manager directly about the job, or have I already done everything possible?". I really could use this job btw.

Definately make contact with the person who can actually hire you, show them you are interested and stand out from the crowd.
Was there a deadline for application? I certainly wouldnt contact before then, but say 3 full days after the deadline for submitting I might, probably 5 days though to see if they needed any other information.
If there was no deadline on the job posting, I would wait at least 5 days before contacting again. Desperation smells a mile away.
Call and speak with the manager. Some companies want to see how interested you are in the job. Stop in and talk to the manager if possible and show him that you are the right person. What have you got to lose?
