I would smile and nod my head or I would ask "how are you today?"
I smile and touch the person at the arm or put my arm around his/her shoulders. I do not necessarily say anything.
Not in the job though because of that does not comply with professional behavior. But with all my buddies and friends. I do not even say a thing sometimes. they all know...it means hi, I like you as my Friend and how is life treating you today?
