Should I demand half of my security deposit back?

My ex and I split under pretty bad circumstances. We got into an altercation. I don't remember much because I was drinking quite a bit, but from what I do remember she was also trying to hurt me. I got arrested and she didn't and so due to the arrest I cannot go back to the apartment that we both lived in. It was a brand new place and we just signed the lease there and paid the security deposit. I am trying to split everything evenly because she is very difficult to deal with and plus...we were both wrong in this incident. All I want is half of the security deposit back which is $600 and since i was arrested and can't go back that she states that I shouldn't be entitled to it. So I made a mistake...but so did she...aren't I entitled to what's rightly mine? Or...should I just let it go and stop arguing with her already?

Answers:
You can take it to small claims court and technically you are entitled to it,but you have to also prove that you paid with a reciept or a landlord's statement. It'll probably cost you more than you're collect, because of court costs.
You can sue her.
Is it worth $600. If so - file a small claims court suit. If not say adios. Definitely not worth fighting with her.
Leave it as a $600 lesson not to drink like an idiot. Next time, you might drink and drive and kill someone and end up in jail for many, many years.
Was your name on the lease as well as hers? If so, I don't see how legally you can be forced out of your own place. You should be entitled to 1/2 your security deposit back if the lease was in both names. If it wasn't, then I don't know how you can prove it but you certainly can try!!
