How to get my competitors' customers to buy from my shop instead?
Answers:
Have a sale.
You need to let them know about your shop, and have something that's better for them if they buy from you than from your competitor - if you're equal to their current supplier, they'll more likely stay where they are.
#1 You have to have something that the other guy doesn't have. Upbeat friendly staff who is motavated to help the clients. Note I said CLIENT not CUSTOMER... a CUSTOMER buys a slurpy or gets gas while a CLIENT buys from you because he believes in you and believes that you do it just for him. I would spend a few dollars more to have someone remember my name and ask how the last product I got from him worked out.
#2 Have the store that you would want to shop in. Clean, orderly and always have the items that sell in stock.
#3 Ask your clients what they want and listen to what they say. Use that information to accomidate their needs. If you don't someone else will.
#4 Let people know you are there with advertisements. Newspapers (Sell in the Sunday paper, but look for the local free comentary paper because typically those stay in the house a few days longer due to movie and event listings.)
#5 Never say "Lemme tell ya what I'm gonna do..." or "What can I do to get your business today...?" Just listen to your clients, they will tell you how to sell them. "I am looking for a car that will seat my 4 kids, wife and fluffy the dog, but I don't want a minivan and I want good gas milage."
#6 Always smile. Even on the phone. No they can't see you but your voice sounds different and they can tell. Try it.
#7 If all else fails, sell your business to that other guy and go to the beach.
:)
Hope I help.
