Could anyone tell me if gold prices go down in a recession?

When the share market has a major loss, are gold prices effected

Answer:
When it looks bleak for stocks, people do flee to the safety of hard assets such as gold. Its not a guarantee that gold will rise in such situations..but it usually does.
gold prices usually go up when the stock market goes down (especially if the stock market goes down due to high oil prices, high inflation, and world violence like it's doing now)
Gold may initially drop with a liquidation of goods and assets BECAUSE there is a LACK OF MONEY(sounds weird but its true) in the world, but only temporarily. Lack of 'money' you say?, There is plenty of debt and credit in the world, but these are TWO DIFFERENT things and are NOT MONEY and therefore not assets and will be a dead weight to most .. next, as goods(incl gold, land, homes, stocks, bonds,e. are sold to meet these debt requirements, everything gets put 'on sale' and this leads to a deflation which leads to a depressionary spiral..at some point, the price of gold will skyrocket before the bottom of the depression..If you can survive with your gold, you will be like kings as the best time to have money is when no one else does..gold at $2000+ looks likely.

get out of debt now before you have to sell stuff super cheap to stay solvent when this day approaches
gold prices rise because your paper money is worth nothing if the economy falls apart. A gold bar or shares in a company that makes/owns gold bars still has value.

Not sure but..

I like the real GOLD nuggets.

As most gold is mined as very fine dust and tiny nuggets, the larger (over 1oz) nuggets are very rare! Actually they are as rare as large diamonds!

I would suggest you look into large nuggets!

To see the 'live' spot NY gold price and some museum size gold nuggets I suggest you visit a great site I found a few months ago. I purchase a few nuggets from them just about a month ago, and not only are they beautiful to look at but in just the last few weeks they have really moved up in value!

I'm actually saving to purchase others!

Gold does well when times get tough. Gold is a barometer of misery. When stocks are falling, or inflation is rising, geopolitical tensions abound, gold does well as people flee to assets that are a store of wealth.
