Burning money: federal crime or just plain fun?

Answer:
What about invading foreign countries, and spending billions of dollars in the process? As long as you are a politician, and not in the trenches, this is both burning money and fun at the same time.
It's against the law to destroy government property, same as if you put a bomb in a mailbox.

that's what a cop told me as a kid when I was putting pennies on the train track so they would be smashed and flattened.
Physically burning a dollar bill is a federal crime, as is defacement or destruction of federal property.

Mainly, the big violation isn't destroying money (which most people would consider just plain dumb) but defacing it, most likely by advertising.

Paper money is a tool, created by the government, to assist you in your economic transactions. It is not your property.
As fast as the US Govt burns them in Iraq,etc..How could it be a crime? If I didnt have anything else to do, I would love to challenge this arguement in court.THAT would be FUN!
