American oil pension imvestment good or bad?

Answers:
I know someone who bought about $10K worth of Exxon back in 1974, and it's worth over 300K now. So yes, oil companies are good retirement investments.
Personally, I can't imagine investing in any pension. Large corporations have taken their pension funds, emptied them out, and then created whole new cash-out plans. IBM is one of them. I wouldn't want to put my money against anything where the government has allowed them to do this in the past. Granted, it was under Clinton that it happened, but my impression is it will happen again. There were over 30 large companies that did it, and it really hurt the employees, not to mention anyone investing in the pension plan. Look at it this way, it's money just sitting there waiting to be collected by employees. When the company starts having a bad year, they are willing to steal from Adam to pay Steve, right?
It's a doggone shame, but it is so.
I think you had better re-phrase your question...I don't quite understand it, AND the two people who answered saw it two different ways.
Good luck.
