Let me see if I understand this question correctly? You are unemployed. No income. And you want to invest 4000 pounds. Is that correct? What do you plan using to meet your living expenses while you find a new job?
Forget investing that money. Concentrate on finding new employment.
It depends on whether you need to be able to get at the money quickly.
If you want to put it away for a minimum of five years try an ISA, if you need to dip into it now and again pop into your local bank or building society and ask them what their best accounts are.
