Money is a 'middle man'. It is something that has value to both the seller and the buyer. The relevance of money has a close tie to government and populace. As civilization grew, along with the ability to trade, six snail shells (or whatever currency) no longer had the meaning/value they once did amongst differing people. Money equalized/equalizes the vlaue in a society. Today, the basis for that value is the amount of gold a country holds along with future capacity for general wealth.
