Are stock dividends listed as annually or quarterly?

On Yahoo finance it lists the stock dividend amount. Is that an annual amount or is that the amount paid each quarter. Probably a basic question but I do not know the correct answer.

Answers:
The amount shown on the main quote page is the annual amount. If you go into 'historical prices' you can see the dividend history for the stock and how the payouts break out by quarter.

generally it's the annual dividend
The majority of stocks pay quarterly dividends eg; MRK , XOM ,MOT, Etc. Some also pay a monthly dividend as my PGH and numerous other companies. On Yahoo Finance look under Historical Prices then click Dividends Only . It'll tell you the frequency the company issues their dividends.
