"I want to eventually be a professional liability underwriter, what do I do to achieve this"?
Answer:
Well, it's a start. What you REALLY need to do is get your property/casualty brokers license, and start working in the field in commercial insurance.
There are very, very few professional liability only underwriters - most underwriters do all commercial lines, or all liability commercial lines, or specialty commercial lines. So you're probably NOT going to find a job doing just professional liab. underwriting.
If you don't have a bachelor's degree, your chances of getting hired by a carrier are slim to none, so you'll have to start at an agency and work your way up. Before you can start underwriting for professional liability, you need to have a firm grasp of underwriting, rating, and operations for general commercial insurance - how it works, why it works, and general risk management.
It's not something you can learn from a quick course, it takes YEARS to develop the backround you need to do that.
Get a job as an underwriting trainee at an insurance company.
But as the previous poster said, you need a college degree to compete with everyone else who has one.
If you want to be a professional liability underwriter, I agree that you should get a job as an underwriting trainee. But you should also start taking CPCU exams, as this will be the best way to advance (and to get a foot in the door for a job). You will then be able to underwrite all sorts of insurance, but can focus on those areas that you mentioned.
