Independent Insurance Agent San Diego?

I am looking for a good independent insurance agency to work for in San Diego for Auto and Property insurance. I have heard that 10-15% commissions are good if you can get them and also looking for renewals. Does anybody know of any good companies? Also is it common for the insurance companies to pay you out directly as opposed to the agency? I want to work for a good company know that I will continue to get residuals and if I leave be able to take my customers with me and still be getting paid on my deals. Is that to much to ask?

Answers:
Well, if you're working for the agent, you'll have to SPLIT that 10 - 15% with them.

Insurance companies will pay whoever they have the contract with - which is almost ALWAYS the agency.

If you want to take your book with you, and won't sign a noncompete agreement, you're going to have to have a personal relationship with someone - like your dad - who lets you do that. Yes, it's NOT a realistic expectation in general. Usually when you leave, the book belongs to the agency, and you lose your renewals.

Regarding agencies, just find some at www.iiaa.org.
