Insurance - dwi?

When does my insurance company become aware of my dwi?
after I'm arrested? after my license is suspended? or after i'm found guilty?

Answer:
If they are going to find out, it will be when they renew your policy. that is when they will run your driving record. In most states its going to show up the moment you licenses is suspended / revolked.
Depends on your insurance company and how they do their research. Sometimes they never find out. Most of the time they do.
The Dmv reports your violation to your insurance provider, because you have points deducted from your driving record. Now, for 2 years, you must carry a SR22, your insurance is going to go up, count on it.
I would not want to be you.

Hopefully you will stop endangering the lives of everyone who chooses to drive - we would appreciate not having drunks on the road.
most likely after you go to court & licence is suspended, don't worry you WILL be found guilty, that is a hard one to get out of unless you can afford a darn good lawyer.
Almost all insurers buy their driving record data from ChoicePoint (an Atlanta company), which has contracts with each state's driver's license registration authority.

This data is uploaded from each state on a daily basis (in most cases).

So, whenever the conviction is reported to your state's DL authority, it will get picked up by ChoicePointe, usually within 24 hours. Choice Point is only given access to data that shows convictions, so it won't hit your record until AFTER you are convicted.

Then, depending on the contract your insurer has with ChoicePointe, your insurer will get a list of all changes to the database of its clients. Very large insurers will likely get the data electronically within 24 hours. However, smaller insurers either may have a slower reporting period (because they don't want to have to pay as much to ChoicePoint if they have a smaller insured base) or may not do this electronically.

So, in all liklihood, your insurer will get notice within 48 hours of the time the conviction is recorded on your record.

My advice to you would be that if you have a DWI and you know it hasn't been convicted out yet..that you switch to as small an insurer as possible..try to find one that is so small it does stuff via paper records.

That may help delay the impending insurance problems for a few weeks if not longer..

The disadvantage is that a larger insurer is able to absorb more people like you without as large a premium increase. A smaller insurer will probably take steps to increase your premium right away.
If you had a DWI with an accident, they will find out pretty quickly. If it was not with an accident, they will find out the next time they run an MVR. However, if you need to file and SR 22 - proof of financial responsibility- they will find out when you need it. Your company may or may not file these. If they don't, you will need to find a company that does. In TN, you have to carry an SR 22 without interruption for 3 years. After you no longer need the SR 22, some companies still may not write your insurance for a certain period of time - some of my companies won't take you for 5 years.
About 90 days before your policy renews. You'll have a "ding" when you're convicted on your driving record, and another "ding" when your license is suspended. A few months before your policy renews, the insurance company automatically checks the driving records - and those dings will come back. At that time, they can issue a cancellation notice on your policy for the license suspension.
if there is a claim they find out right away no claim..25% chance a renewal..most companies only chech about 25% of all policies renewing because of the great cost betwee 10 to $20.00 per motor vehicle registration
most insurance companies run MVR's at every policy renewal
that's why they write a 6 month policy instead of an annual policy
anyway, they will check your driving record at renewal time and will find the DWI, and if your license is suspended then you won't need insurance, right?
they may never find out, they will have to run your license to find out. Did you get in an accident at the time of the dwi? if so they will find out most likely.
