Do you think an underwriter in the USA needs college degree?
Answer:
totally depends on the company, and your relationship with them.if you've worked for the same company for 20 years as an assistant and wanting to move up, then no..a degree is probably not required.
If your applying to get your foot in the door with a new company after 20 years with someone else, then mabye.some companies see the degree as being a. a sign of stability (negated by your 20 years exeperience.espc helpful if all with same co) and b. A sign of adaptibility and trainability for a position. Each company is going to have their own guidelines, and each manager will view this differently. Alot also depends on the marketplace..if your in a market where 70% of job seekers have degrees, your at a definite disadvantage.if its closer to 30%, then the tables are shifted more your way..that applies to any position in the degree/no degree argument
No college is required for about 80% of the jobs out there today. But they require it anyway. So a lot of times they end up getting a sub-par employee over one with a vast amount of experience and often better leadership qualities.
So why haven't you been promoted in 21 years? Maybe you should get that degree.
No, but I think if a company has to choose between a person with a degree, and a person without, they will take the one with the degree.
I've been told, when there are lots of applicants, the first people weeded out are the ones without a bachelor's degree.
alot of companies think that a degree is more important than
experiencebut they soon find out that experience and common sense are much more important
