I hope someone can help me. Because of a divorce situation, heath insurance for my mom is no longer available. I will be able to pay for my mom's md visits, so she can keep the md she has had for many years. He would like to keep her as a client, but he does not accept medicaid. I will be able to pay for her visits but not for all the medications because I can not afford it. She takes a total of 7 medications a day (most important are for diabetic and high blood pressure medical problems). We went to the pharmacy to see how much all the medications she takes would cost without insurance, and the total was $682.00 per month. My mom nor I could afford that every month. Are you allowed to apply for medicaid so that medications will have it's copay but will continue to see your md due to the payment of the visit by someone else and the md's approval to keep you as his patent?
Answer:
You need to try to explain the situation to the doctor and the assistants working in his office. They might know a way to do it. You'd have to put your name down on a form as the responsible party probably.
Also, there are times you could probably talk to the drug companies and get the medicine for free. (I never knew someone who did, but heard about it before.)
If she is unable to work, and an arrangement cannot be made at the doctor's office, then she may have to find a new family physician who will accept Medicaid. I hope things work out for you guys.
