I am licensed in GA P&C moving to CA - keep GA license non res and get CA license res what do I need to do?

I am appointed by Liberty Mutual and would like to write in both states. I work as a marketing assistant for an agent in GA but live in CA

Answer:
First thing to do is write to the GA ins. dept, get a "letter of good standing". Then you usually turn that in to CA ins dept, with a fee, and they transfer your GA resident license to a CA resident license. Then you get your CA letter of good standing, and apply for your GA non-resident license. It's time consuming, and a PITB, but not very difficult.
Contact the office of the Insurance Commissioner in both states and ask for the licensing requirements. Each state has very different requirements for licensing. I used to be a licensed L & H agent in 6 different states . some required fingerprints and other weird stuff for licensing. It's best just to call the Insurance Commissioner's Office and find out, get the paperwork, ect. You also might try contacting your lead agent with Liberty Mutual, since I'm sure they have agents in both states. Your home office might be able to help with your licensing issues.
