Health insurance for child?

i'm looking for a low cost insurance plan for 1 child. not medicaid or anything like that, but the one's i've found are about 200-250/month. location is north carolina.

Answer:
Is the child healthy? If so, look for a PPO plan. Specifically, a HDHP plan. It stands for High Deductible Health Plan. Don't be fooled by the title, its an IRS definition. These plans provide the best coverage for major sicknesses or injuries, which should be the main concerns for a healthy person. The High Deductible will give you a lower premium. This makes it affordable, and gives the most coverage when you need it the most.

Don't worry about copays and all that other crap. Insurance companies bury the cost for your copays in the premium anyways. People assume that copays are such a great benefit. The only problem is, that you already are paying for the office visit and prescription in your premium.

You can find a plan like this for less than $100.00 a month, depending on the age of the child.
That sounds like a lot. Have you tried the online services that let you compare quotes from several companies? There are several good ones. There's no cost or obligation. Here are a few:

obviously every state is different but you might check out your local Blue Cross. 200-250 for health insurance on 1 child is pretty high. Look into a PPO, if you are trying to save $$ then HMO's are typically not the way to go.
In addition to the recommendation above, consider North Carolina's Children's Health Insurance Program. It's separate from Medicaid (Medical Assistance) and offers a sliding premium schedule according to family income:

Your state insurance commissioner's office may be able to advise you regarding other alternatives, so you might want to call there, also.

I hope this helps.
There are many web sites offering health insurance quotes for children.

You want to make sure you understand the coverages offered, coverage limits, deductibles, co-pays, and exclusions for any pre-existing conditions as this may affect how much you pay and what coverages you receive.

To compare rates and plans for health insurance for your child I recommend the two top-rated health insurance quote providers:
