Has anyone ever filed a claim on a damaged package from UPS? Do they pay up to the insured amount?

I shipped my stepson's computer to him when he moved off to go to college. They mangled it. It was insured for $2K. I'm wondering how they handle their claims. They've "Approved the Claim." Now I'm wondering what's to expect at this point.

Answer:
Thats great that your claim was approved. I used to work for a retail store and most damage claims were sent back to us with an 'insufficient packaging' rejection notice. I guess you got someone at the office in a good mood. hahah

You'll receive forms that want info such as where the funds will be delivered/deposited. Shouldn't take more than a few days to process. Just stay on top of them by calling with your approval number every day or two.
I think there may be a limit to what they cover but go to their site and check - it must say on there - http://www.ups.com/ or call them to ask for the most exact info at 1-800-pick-ups - or 1-888-pick-ups can't remember which it is..
