How does a post office make money?

Answer:
Your local post office makes money from the transactions it performs and services it provides. Until recently, the government paid the post office so pensioners to could their pension. If you can pay bills at the post office, they will get paid for that. Driving licences and passport applications can also make them money as they earn fees and commissions on these. Obviously, your post office will also make money on the stamps and goods it sells. Most post offices do not make money with the move towards electronic banking and fewer people using them; hence the high number of post offices that are being closed.
Delivering your mail and packages.
By charging people when they sent letters/pacells to other places.
They get a percentage from ALL Transactions.
For All Other services they provide (Like Greetings Cards, Stationary) banking stuff like with drawls and Deposits.
it nonprofit. people are employed by the state, its where some of the tax dollars go plus the money you use when you buy stamps.
A lot of different ways, you pay them to deliver letters etc, companies pay them huge amounts to deliver junk mail, they sell Insurance, make money from currency exchange, sell postal orders plus loads of more things.
it doesn't. it looses millions each year subsidised by us, the tax payer
They make money by selling stamps and other mail supplies and by charging for shipping on packages.
They don't make money, they are happy to be subsidised from the tax payer (as they usually run at a loss) , As long as they are getting good wages for doing nowt they are happy. When anyone says close a post office the staff then cry 'what about the poor pensioners and the great local service we do,etc, the unions start beating their drum also). Remember it all extra tax we are paying every week to keep the idol content (as in most public services ).
Post office is not a business house so they can make money,It's kind of service they offered. to the community. They do just charges for postal stamps and their other services,to make it out expenses the occurred.Postal services is funded by the Federal Government.
You said "a post office", not "The Post Office", so I guess you mean a shop, contrary to earlier answers. They are finding it hard now, because they have lost a lot of their business in recent times. Most pensioners now have their money paid into bank accounts, TV licences are no longer paid this way. They are looking in new directions to keep profitable. You may notice this when using them in recent times..
