Back Ground Checks?

My company is looking at hiring a Financial Director. We are considering doing a back ground check. Does anyone know exactly what we should look for? Can you suggest any website that are specific to situations like ours that can run back ground checks?

Answer:
I've had a couple done on me for my job, you'll need to have an employment history, residence history, criminal record check, references. It comes down to trustworthiness of the potential employee. Do his answers in interviews, surveys, etc check out? Does he come recommended by previous employeers? That is a big one. How does he respond to questions about his prior job?
Go to the Clerck of Courts of the county that you live in.
If not you can go to the nearest policy department and they will be able to provide you that information you will need a social security number, date of birth, name and last name,
Have the prospective employee be interviewed by different levels of people, and higher ups at least twice, and once on the gulf course, once out to lunch or for happy hour. Alcohol brings out inhibitions. You would want to know if there is any criminal activity in this person's background, how they handle their money (credit check), take some lessons from Enron and have him chat with a CPA your company trusts to see if there are any skeletons in this person's closet. See if they get along well with people, see if they are tricky, manipulative, hide anything. Any divorces, problems with money? Any charitable organizations in their past? Would people vote for them? Who are their friends and relatives? Check out their wife and family for any monetary or criminal type problems. Have they moved often? Any red flags at all? Check all state, federal, county and city criminal background checks. Do they own a home? Are they obligated to your community or known in your community? Hire a trusted PI to check around as they come up with some amazing stuff. All you need is the prospective FO to sign at the bottom of the application to enable you to check them out. These days everybody has something small on their credit record, so in the end you'll have to make the determination as to if that would effect your business or not. If you interview over a length of time (a few months) and have people sit in other rooms to hear the conversation you should have a good overview. Also have one of those people who can determine from handwriting and from body language if anything is wrong.
