The importance is the same as it used to: drawing attention and influencing people.
Internet is just another surface for advertisments, but it's far more advanced thanks to the uncountable amount of information.
A company's website should contain everything: addresses, references, products. etc.

Personally, I find extremely annoying the pop-ups, redirections, clicking noises and other sounds, motion animations which slow down the download of the site. I just want to see a moderate, preferably funny ad. Other Questions and Answers:
