What is your opinion on the 529 plan?

We just had a baby in September 2006 and would like to start saving money for his college education. What are the best options? I have read about the 529 plan but I can think of a few drawbacks because the program is still growing. Any suggestions for my son's future?

Answer:
Your drawbacks are valid ones, and eveyrone should look at the pros and cons of every financial plan. That being said.I LOVE 529s!

You can use the money for all sorts of secondary education, and education related expenses.

There are benefits for most in state participants - though I have sold out of state plans that better suit the clients objectives.

The amount of money you can put in blows up Coverdales.

All around they're wonderful!
I think you should go with the 529. The benefits outweigh the risks and it is a great way to save some money.
live with what u have, a happy family
keep ur son happy, dont be protective
and he might bring back a scholarship somedays, who knows

but yeah, plans normally don't work, trust me (in business it does, but in family..nope)
ur sons future is up to him, not you, so respect what he will be doing.

but anyways, congratulation man, and good luck
