As a new manager, I want to know what are people looking for in a boss?
Answer:
You are the best to answer that question. What did you look for? What were the things you wanted and did not want in the bosses you had? Learn from the past Managers you worked for. Take the best and the worse and make sure you use them the right way.
Number one for me was I keep communications open and an open door on any subject. I know my team better than anyone so I know that when I am asked for my team to perform, I can answer with specifics and then pass out the work to the right ones and get the ones that are weak in areas working with ones strong in that area so that in the end, we are all solid and no matter what we are successful together.
OH, and when you get a complement from your management, pass it to the team and make sure your management knows your team did the work, not you!
Good luck
They are looking for your strengths and your weaknesses. Welcome to management.
Seriously - figure out which ones want security and which ones want growth and then GIVE IT TO THEM!
