Electric company messed up my bill.?
Now I want to make things right but I am scared that they are gonna try to backcharge me from the past 10 mnths and I cannot afford that. What should I do?
Answer:
You are not responsible for someone else's mistake. If you haven't paid a power bill for ten months, then you are in a pickle. I would go to the person or persons that manage the apartments, and talk to them about the situation. You can always file a complaint with your state utilities comission, and force them into fixing the problem. They would put pressure on the power company, and the power company would force the apartment management to straighten it out. This might ruffle some feathers and cause some problems, but just remind them that you will not, and cannot be held responsible for their mistakes. This is not your mess, and if you just happen to mention that you will get an attorney involved if you have to, I'll bet it will get fixed pretty fast. The power company will be afraid to try any repercussions on you, and if they do, you will have the utilities commission already on your side, because you contacted them and made a complaint before hand. The main thing is don't let them intimidate you, and tell them how its going to be, not how they are going to do it. The power company don't want any trouble, and they will resolve the problem at no cost to you. Believe me; you can make them do the right thing! I hope this is of some help in your situation. Good Luck!
