How do i go about starting my own home contractor business?
Answers:
Many states require you to be licensed first. Some may allow you to perform certain jobs without a license. First step would be to find out what, if any, license you need in your state, and get that ball rolling.
Once you get started, don't waste money on expensive advertising at first. Things like yellow pages require annual contracts that could run into several hundred dollars a month. You should keep your overhead low until you are more established. You will need to be able to buy materials, keep your truck & tools in good working order, etc., so try to keep you money in the business until you build up a prudent reserve. Contracting can be an expensive business to get going.
Try inexpensive (or free) advertising options - Craigslist, put up flyers in condo complexes (if they will let you), word of mouth is your best bet, such as referrals through your church or any business or volunteer associations you belong to.
Start with an ad in the yellow pages and your local paper.
