How does ebay consignment work?

another ebay question- i want to open a ebay consignment store. how exactly does it work. i know how to list the items and all of the ebay part but how do you charge for the service to the original seller of the item? is there a set percentage to charge and what about ebay listing fees is that considered to be covered int he percentage or do you charge a listing fee also?! Then do we ship the item out or expect the original seller to ship it out. and if we do - do we charge for that also (packaging materials. time. etc.) or is that also included in the percentage charged to the original seller? Thanks for you help!

Answer:
I guess that you are talking about buying from a drop shipper and selling items on ebay. Any costs incurred have to be recovered in you selling price or you are doing this for nothing.

Ebay will set up a store for you for a fixed amount and the price of listing or relisting will be better. But you do have the fixed cost of the subscription to recover each month.

Most drop shipper will charge extra for shipping to cover costs. What they do though is to charge you full price for say a Fedex shipment while they receive a discount.

I can't give you too many specifics on charges, etc. but don't worry everybody takes a piece of the action and your job is to find a way to actually make money.

If you can come up with an in demand item to sell and can get the product cheap enough you can make a little money. You can also sell on Yahoo Auctions for free so this may be worth consideration.
Hey there-
eBay calls this "trading post" which is a type of trading assistant.

Generally speaking, trading posts have "minimum item value" that they work with, and charge people eBay fees incurred, plus some mix of fixed and variable comp.

I've put together some clips that may help you with your plan here:
