How Do I Stop These Darn Credit Card Solicitations?

I must get about 5 a week! It's so time-consuming to have to constantly shred, then recycle them!

Sorry if this question is a repeat, I know it's pretty basic. Thanks!!

You can go to the websites other people have listed, and it may help a little - it's never 100%... just do what I do to tick the card companies off... I save them up, then mail Visa info back to AMEX, M/Card to Discover and so on. They have to pay the postage, it doesn't stop them sending stuff, but hey, if enough people do it, maybe they'll get the hint!! I know it takes a little time to do it, but it gives ME satisfaction!

pay or file for bankrupcy
888-5-OPT-OUT will remove you from lists sold by Equifax, Experian and TransUnion. This can eliminate nearly all of the pre-approved solicitations.
Go to www.dmaconsumers.org and opt out of the national mailing list.
OPT OUT!

if you go to www.optoutprescreen.com , you can opt out of credit offers for 5 years or for good. Doing either one of these can also raise your credit score up to 15 points... so why not?
take the envelope they give you to send them back their crap and just seal it and mail it. don't put anything in it, just make them pay for postage. it won't stop the offers, but I like to think it's my little way of "sticking it to the man"
If you want to spend a little time and effort, you can make them stop. There are other reasons to stop them besides the waste of paper. They are a big security risk. If those fall into the wrong hands, they can do some damage.

Here is what you have to do:

Write a letter to each of the three major credit monitoring agencies. Equifax, TransUnion, and Experian as follows.

Equifax
Equifax Options
PO BOX 790123
Atlanta, GA 30374-0123

TransUnion
TransUnion LLC's Name Removal Option
PO Box 97328
Jackson, MS 39288-7328

Experian
Consumer "OPT-OUT"
901 West Bond
Lincoln, NE 68521

Send them a letter asking to have your name eliminated from the pre-screened credit card offers. They will send you back a form to complete to get your name off the list. It will take a few weeks, but those offers will come to a screeching halt.

While you are at it, you can stop a lot of the junk mail that you get by opting out with the Direct Marketing Association (the-dma.org) They will have their members remove you from all those circulating lists that are used by junk mailers.

If 10% the people in the country took this action, we could reduce energy consumption and save a lot of trees. Every week, a lot of waste paper goes to the landfill without ever being opened by the recipient. What a total waste. Good luck.
