BiLL COLLECTORS?
Answer:
The above answers are correct.
Note, however, that you can't just tell them on the phone to stop calling you. The collector will just ignore it and continue to pester you, and if it ever goes to court they will just say you never informed them to quit calling.
You need to send them a certfied letter, return receipt, to "cease and desist" communicating with you at work (or at home if you want a full order). Then, if they call you again, you have grounds to sue them for $1000 for violating the FDCA laws.
Bill collectors are allowed to call you at your job for purposes of locating you, but cannot reveal the reason behind the call. You do have the right to restrict or eliminate collection calls made to that and any other number, including your primary phone.
This right is granted to you through the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. There are other rights that you may have regarding your debts.
Tell them to stop calling you and to only contact you in writing. Also get their address and write a letter tell them to stop calling you. If they call you after you notify them they will forfeit your debt and have to pay you $1000.
I do not see why they would not be able to, but I do not know the law. And I am sure the law varies with each state.
The fastest way to get the calls to stop is to pay your bill. You usually can settle for less then what you originally owed.
Someone told me that they told a creditor that if they kept calling and harrsassing them they would report them to the FCC. Needless to say the calls stopped. Make sure you get the collectors phone number and the agents name though. By law they can not harrass you . And reporting them to the FCC would be a huge lawsuit.
Get the callers name, write it down with the time they called, Tell them never under any circumstances call here again.
once you tell a bill collector to stop the calls whether at work or at home they must stop. Each call you receive be sure to ask for the name of the person you are speaking with incase they call you again.
