Yes it happends, it has happend to me, the bank put $35,000 in my account. But after after 3 weeks they took it away.
My cousin works the bank, and she said it happends often. But 99.9999 percent of the time they will fix the problem.

Yes it can happen that you suddenly have a large amount in your account, however there's a person who's missing it in their account and the bank will find it. So, I wouldn't spend it but tell the bank about it. Don't think you'll ever be able to keep it.
Only if it is the bank's fault. But sooner or later they'll find about it, so don't spend it, as you might find yourself having to reimbourse every penny.
I once was deposited twice my salary, by mistake. I informed the personnel director and they corrected the amount. It all was a bank's mistake.
