I was in a financial crunch and the way I handled it was to first pay off my highest interest debts first. Not including house loan. Then, and I think the most important, I started paying myself. if you have been paying 200 or 300 hundred a month, after its paid off, pay some of that to yourself. Secondly, if you are going to take out a big loan, home loan or car loan, improve your credit. Take out a loan for 1000 before you plan to take the larger loan, dont use the money just let it go full term and pay a little interest now, and you will save points on the larger loan.
