How do you reply/respopnd to bill collectors when they call evry day?

Any tips on how to tell off these jerks? Especially if the bill is very old?

Answer:
If you are dealing with old debts, there are some things you may need to be careful of. Debt collectors buy lists of old debts for less than 1% of the original debt amount. They track you down and harrass you.

If you are not careful, they can reset that 7 year credit clock!

These steps can help when dealing with debt collectors.
Send them a Cease and Desist letter via certified and return receipt mail. (this will cost you about $3.50 or so. In it, you must use the terms "Cease and Desist" when you request them not to contact you anymore regarding this matter.
They legally have to stop, but usually at that point they sell the account to another collection agency who starts the calls all over again or takes you to court for a judgment lien.
Enroll in a debt management program. They will then handle your collection calls.
You don't have much choice but pay for it.

They will sell your account to another collection agencie.
Uh, my suggestion is to get off your * and pay what you owe and then they will leave you alone. Jerks? I think you need a reality check.
Try and set up a payment. Or ignore the calls. Either way, PAY THEM!
I just love these collection agents with their advice to just "pay up".

The way I see it, they have trashed your credit for the past several years. You have "paid your debt" already.

See the links below.

The first describes what the Statute of Limitations is, and gives you lots of information about it. If this is a very old debt, they may not even be able to sue you for it. With this knowledge, you can cuss up a storm at the next collection agent who calls.

Send a cease and desist letter to the collection agent, plus a demand to validate letter. By law, once they receive this letter they can no longer contact you. If they do, they risk a $1000 lawsuit for violation of the Fair Debt Collections act.

Just take the time to read the info below.you will do fine.
Tell them you have no more money than what you just send them.
"The check is in the mail" is great. Send a 20$ check.

I heard once about someone switching suppliers enveloppe when sending checks. It gives you 2 - 3 more weeks !

Good luck !
