Can a get cell service if i have a bill in collections with another provider?

Basically my first cell phone service was voicestream(way back when, from 6 yrs ago now), my contracted turned out to be not what the retailer said it was and i got a huge bill and refused to pay it. ever sice then when i go to get a new cell service they say i have to pay a down payment b/c i owe tmobile/voicestream.

Answer:
As long as you have an unpaid bill with any carrier, you'll be required to make a cash downpayment. My husband works for Sprint, and the situation you mentioned frequently occurs. The only solution is cash, or pay the former carrier the amount due.

Sorry!
Tracfone,Virgin Air, just two of the national cell providers. Buy airtime cards and pay as you go.
you'll have to pay, otherwise pay a down payment.not to mention you probably won't be eligible for loans/credit cards because you have an account in collections. I'd say the collection company is probably willing to accept half of what you owe, and considering you are an adult, you should pay your debts, and learn from the mistake you made, avoiding it is something a teenager would do.
Use pay as you go phones.
