The first thing is compassion.
Then, do not demand nor threaten the "customer."
If you alienate the person you are trying to get money from, you are only hurting yourself and your ability to collect the funds.
If you are nasty with them, they will hang up on you. If you are sweet, pleasant and compassionate, you will probably get them to agree to pay what you require.
Tell people that they don't have any debt!
Treat people the way you would want to be treated. If you are nasty to them then they will most likely be nasty to you. Give them a chance first, them do what you have to second.
