Is it true that any type of utility bill sent to collections will disappear in 7 years.?
Answer:
It would have remained on your daughters report for 7 years from the delinquency.
It is not ok for your wife to do that and I'm glad that you filed the police report and got it off of your daughters report.
Even though it would be gone in 7 years, if anyone ever pulled a full factual report, they would probably see it. Full factual report pulling is rare, but does happen.
If your daughter, after she grows up, decides to work in a sensitive high security area, they would probably pull a full factual report. While they would be able to tell it happened when she was only 10, it could still hinder her.
Tell your ex she could very well be jeopardizing the childs future because of her selfish thievery.
edited to add, you might also try and pull your daughters LexisNexis report and see how it looks
Yes, most items on your credit report have an expiration date, however there is no hard and fast deadline for items in collection to be removed, for a timeline of how long items remain on your credit report and specific info about items in collection see http://finance-girl.blogspot.com/2006/09.
By law, negative information must be removed from your credit report after 7 years. Active accounts stay on the report as long as the account is active. In any case, this is NOT a defense to fraud.
It would come off of her credit report, but it could still be in collections - which is to say that they could still try to collect money from her and if it were enough, theoretically sue. It is also possible that the debt could stay on longer as the collections aganecy may not report it immediately.
Hope this helps!
bad credit can only remain on your credit bureau for 7 yrs.
The debt can be attempted to be collected forever.
doubt that the utility co's would want to chase a few hundred dollars and pay agencies and mailings etc to collect a debt for that long.
My sister did the same with her kids long ago.nothing ever happens. It's not worth the time or money to chase them down or the payment.
