When your credit card co. that you have a card with offers pre-approved upgraded card?
Answer:
Most of the time pre-approved does not mean actually being approved.
If they have sent you a pre-approval, call the number they give and ask if they have to pull a hard inquiry to make their decision.
If it is a "true" pre-approval, they will not have to pull your report.
If it is for an "upgraded" card, they may not have to pull your reports.
If the upgraded card is a far better card, as far as rates, credit limit, etc, than the current card you have, and they tell you that they won't pull your credit, you might think about going for it.
If it is a better card, but they want to pull your credit first, if you think your credit is decent enough that you feel it would pass their approval, you might think about taking a small ding for it. That is just my opinion. I would do that if it were a prime company. I wouldn't do it, if they had to pull my credit, for a mid prime or a sub prime company though.
I don't know if it shows that you asked for or applied for it but it will show that you have more credit available. You can decline the offer by calling them.
