Credit Repair?

Hello, all,

I'm working at repairing my credit and have made a little bit of progress. However my score is still on the upper range of the poor grade. Is there anyway to legally remove adverse items from your reports? A collection account for instance.

Thanks in advance for your responses.

You could always pay off that collection agency

Have you paid off that collection account yet? If not, call them and ask them to take a settlement. Also tell them you want the collection account removed from your credit report. Get it in writing before you pay it off though.
There is no legal way to remove accurate adverse information. You can dispute the information and the credit bureau will have to notate the dispute on your report, but the information will not be removed.
Hi there! My husband I had the same problem when we went to apply for a loan to get our house. They told us my husband's credit was in the 500's and I didn't even have any credit. Go figure! Anyways, they told my husband to apply for a credit card where you have to put money on it to use it. His has a $250 credit line to start. They take that out right off the top. You start out with nothing the first month unless you put money on it. You start out by owing the credit line amount which in his case was $250, made in monthly payments of $40.

Say for instance, you put $50 on the card, then you have $50 to spend. Get a card like that, make your payments on time, pay off the credit limit and it will help raise your score. It helped raise my husband's credit and made it to where we could get a loan for our home.

He has 2 cards. One is a Visa from Rewards 660 with a monthly payment of $40 and a Mastercard from First Premier Bank with a monthly payment of $20. He found them both online. Both cards are for people with bad credit. They help you reestablish your credit and raise your credit score.

Hope this helps you! Good luck!
You can raise your credit score. Here are some tips How to Evaluate and Raise Your Credit Score,

it is hard to remove a collection once you have paid for it because that means you agreed that everything was correct. you can try disputing the tradeline anyway because since you have paid, the creditor might not respond to the credit bureau because they already have their money. if there is something that you haven't paid, you can dispute the tradeline saying that some of the info listed is incorrect. which is usually true when a creditor buys your debt.
I had the same problem. We had a collection on our credit report from a flower shop (funeral bill). I paid my part, but unfortunately the others didn't pay theirs. Anyway I called the flower shop and they agreed that when I paid the account off they would remove the collection from my credit and mark it paid in full. It helped my score about 20 points. Good luck.

Bella and Wendy's answers highlight what I've been saying here for along time.

There are only two ways to get accurate information removed from your credit report.

1) The Creditor must remove it himself
2) The Creditor fails to respond to a dispute investigation.

So you have already gotten off to a bad start. You paid your debts off without first getting the creditor to agree to remove it from your history. Now that he has your money, they are not going to be very cooperative in helping you fix your credit.

Read the links below and follow the dispute process. Many times the creditor doesn't respond to investigations and the item will be dropped.

Get a copy of your credit report at http://www.annualcreditreport.com. and study it very carefully for any errors. If you find one.even a minor one.dispute it.

Now work on improving your credit. I've supplied an excellent site for this called http://www.lifeafterbankruptcy.com. This site goes into how to improve your credit, how to find loans, and how to manage your money. If most of your debts are old, they will be dropping off your credit history anyway (after 7 years) so that will help also.
