What happens if I make less than minimum payment on a credit card?
Answer:
charges, not good fr your credit rating eighter. i would get them on the phone and work out a different payment scheduel. they will tell you ok but you will not have access to the availble credit untill your account is up to speed.
Call the company and let them know you will pay off the card, but this month you are tight and will send a payment, but it may not be the minimum pymt. They may be fine with it, and at least your account will be memo'd that you called.
It depends on the terms of your credit card plan.
Here's what can happen:
-- You'll be charged an underpayent fee. It can be as high as $30-$35.
-- Your interest rate may go up. That will cost you more in the long run than the underpayment fee.
-- It may become part of your credit record and hurt your rating. That could make it more difficult to get credit in the future, or make you pay higher interest rates.
they will still charge you a late fee--- because they are basterds--------- just file chapter 13 bankrupycty-----------
they come for you children
They raise your APR. They call you unmercifully until you scream. Your unpaid balance sky rockets through the roof.
nothing as long as you pay something there happy, but the longer you pay the more money they make off you from interest
You make the credit card company very very happy because then they get to zing you with late fees too. And before you complain that it isn't fair, you agreed to these terms when you signed up for the card.
John's right. And if you are current now, they probably won't talk to you either. Please read Dave Ramsey's book. www.daveramsey.com
good luck
Your payments will fall behind, then after a few nice letters, some lovely men will knock on your door and take your cat away as payment, pays to keep on top of these things.
you get the late fee, because you are not paying the min. payment that is due every 30 days. after a period of several payments like that you become over limit..the you can really get in trouble. You will be in violation of your contract/agreement and it will cost you late fees, and possibly even a much higher interest rate. Less than minimum payment is treated the same as no payment or late payment.
Suggestion:
better sell some stuff on ebay or have a yard sale, borrow money from your mom/dad to make the minimum.
And quit charging since you are evidently having a hard time paying your bills! :-(
Dave Ramsey may have some interesting concepts, but it's no different than what Suze Orman teaches without the religious holy-roller approach to it.
You will be charged a late fee, just like you made no payment at all. If that fee causes your account to go over the limit, you will be charged an over the limit fee as well. Credit Card companies are devious and can find lots of ways to charge you. Paying on cards with only the minimum each month will take years to pay off your debt, and that's only if you stop charging.
some big burly men from the local prison will come to your house to get you up the rear
Don't make less then minimum EVER you dummy.are you trying to ruin your life?
Stop running up your card(s)..get those darn balances down and paid off and never pay interest again.your credit score will shoot sky high in 6 months if you pay off balance before grace period ( if you have no bad marks elsewhere on reports)
The credit card is the biggest factor in building a good credit rating..you only need two cards until your score gets above 720.good luck
