I need HELP big time!!!?

I owe money for a student loan, they sent me to a collection agency, Well I am being called now from the colllection agency and they want me to pay $50 monthly, $25 each pay period out of my account for this month and then I can start mailing my checks to them. I know its not much but I don't have much $ to give. If I send them $25 monthly can they still garnish my wages???

Answers:
If you sign a contract saying that you are going to pay that amount then you don't pay they will garnish your wages if your employer lets them. Its all up to the employer, if your employer don't let you get your wages garnished then they will take your income tax refund until its paid.

If you don't sign anything and send them monies monthly they can do the same thing whether you pay or not...The collection agency is less likely to garnish if you send them something monthly ON TIME!! There is no law saying they won't garnish even if you pay monthly!!

The best thing that you can do is let them do a wage worksheet and see what payments you can afford. this is the kicker if you cannot be financed through the collection agency then you will have to pay the full amount up front or they WILL GARNISH your wages or take your income tax. Ask your father or significant other to help you out with the decision.
Collection agencies don't garnish wages, they threaten to do it but they have to go to court and have papers drawn up to actually garnish your wages. If you pay them a little a month they can't do nothing, even if its $1
Just pay as much as you can every month. If you pay them SOMETHING, even not a lot, they can't do anything.
enroll back in school then they cant try to collect anything from you as a student...this time pick something that can get you a better paying job
No, they can only garnish if you dont pay at all. What kind of student loan is it? If they sent you to collections more than likely they sold your account to that collection agency. Read this article it will help you out. http://www.adviceontime.com/credit%20tal...
dont worry about it after 7 yr it disappears
You took out a loan now you can't pay $25 per pay period? If you see this response can you give more details? Did you finish school and can't find a job? What field did you go to school for?

I just re-read your question so I guess you don't care about paying them back, just whether they can garnish your wages. Yes they can garnish your wages but that brings up the question how can you have wages at all and refuse to pay them $25 per pay period after they loaned you money?
1st of all it is compleatly untrue if you send a creditor something they cannot leagaly do anything...this used to be the case, but is not any longer. I had medical bills and I was sending $10 a month but because they had not signed a written agreement that they were willing to accept that payment they were still able to garnish my wages for the debt.

If you can afford to send them what they are asking for ask them to send you an agreement to sign stating that your payments will be $25/ month until the debt is paid. This way if they get a bug up their butts you can defend yourself in court.
Oh ok I got this for you...

Better check on this... Im pretty sure you'll discover something...
