I have a credit card in collections. The card company has been calling me?

several times a day since it was 2 days late. The phone rings, my answering machine comes on, and no one says anything and then it hangs up. This goes on constantly and the couple times I have accidently answered because I thought it was someone I was just talking too, they have asked to talk to me. I just said wrong number and hung up. Now I have had law firm call me twice, and leave a long message but at the same time I am still getting the calls where they say nothing. Is this the same people calling or are the lawyers and the credit company both calling?

Answers:
The lawyers are scumbuckets that work down the hall from the collection agency.

Remember, they don't really care about bothering you. It's their job to call you and talk to you. The easiest way to get rid of them is to tell them, "I don't have any money to pay you."

They'll suggest all kinds of things, like borrowing money (which is really dumb...why would I borrow money to pay off someone else that I've borrowed money from?), selling something, getting another job...

then they'll tell you they're going to take you to court and sue you. Don't worry, they won't, unless they think that you really DO have the ability to pay and just aren't paying. It's not cost-effective for them to sue you.

You're going to have a blemish on your credit report, but you probably already do if it's to that point.

You also have the right to ask them to stop calling you. You generally have to give the collection agency this request in writing, but once you have, they must honor it.

Good luck.
PAY THE BILL !!!!!!! OR SET UP ARRANGMENT TO PAY THE BILL
Geesh, just make some payments.
Answer the calls.Ask for a name.Tell them IMMEDIATELY that they are being recorded and that you are demanding they stop calling you at that number. Then tell them you cannot afford to pay and if they call you one more time you will have it recorded and you will sue them for harrassment AND file with the FCC for telephone harrassment. That should do the trick. It helps to actually record the call but they don't know if you really are or not.
These collection agencies will settle for pennies on the dollar, depending on your situation your credit may already be tanked. Just offer then what you want to pay if they will not accept, oh well they get nothing.

The people calling you get paid based on what they collect so they will almost always negotiate.

Just make sure get letters stating that the account is satisfied so that you can get your credit updated. Collection agencies will never report that you have settled, they will just stop reporting you as late.
The attorneys are not always down the hall. They are sometimes right in the same room. As a matter of fact, agents have thousands of attorneys throughout the USA. But that is not the point.

It seems to me that you are not disputing the fact that you owe the bill. So if there are no problems...why are we not making some payments?

Ya, you can ask them to stop calling, tell them your recording and dispute till your blue in the face. But if you do any of those you cause this attorney to pull the trigger and next thing you know...you got a process server at your door with a summons. They will simply sue you.

Pennies on the dollar? No. But if you get a good deal you can go at like 50 cents on the dollar.

The only thing the disputing and all that ish does is buy you a couple days. Than what?

Here are your options.

1. File bankruptcy
2. Make payment arrangements
3. Get sued and get a judgment against you that they will enforce.

Good Luck
You have a few options:

--Talk to them. Make arrangements if you can.

--If you are in the U.S. fax a letter saying they may not contact you again, except in writing. Then send another letter via certified mail indicating that you faxed them a letter, and enclose the first letter.

In the end, you'll have to pay the bill. Why not just talk to them so the harassment will stop?
