Accounts Opened in My Name!!?
Answer:
(1) go online to each of the creidt bureaus *equifax, experian, & transunion*. once there, order a copy of your report & indicate you need to put a fraud alert on your credit information along with notation that this is faud (2) talk to the police and file an incident report with your credit reports in hand, let them know you have no idea who it might be (3) talk to your family. unfortunately over 90% of fraud against underage for contract is family, (4) be prepared to send copies of your birth certificate, some sort of proof from the most recent school attended and some sort of photo ID to all the creditors listed. in order to establish you are under age of contract liabilty. (5) be prepared to press charges against the person who did this to you, many times, that is something you must agree to in order to get the negative info removed from your credit reporting (6) ask your local banker or someone who is finacially savy that can act as a mediator & mentor for help in this matter. especially if you suspect a family member, make it known that you will have no choice but to protect yourself & you would rather resolve the isssue without pressing charges. ask that person to help you meet with the family member you suspect. sadly, it is most often a parent or older sibling..
you need to call the police about this. It will be on your credit until you clear it up.
look at you credit report carefully, it will tell you when They were opened and maybe even the date. if they are all dated before your 18th birthday you are not liable for these charges since a minor cannot enter into a legal contract. You may be a victim of identity theft. You can contact each creditor and ask when and where these accounts were open. you need to talk to a lawyer to help fix this, in almost all cases the first visit is free.good luck
Sometimes the credit report systems make mistakes, there was one that had the same name of my husband, and all but one number of his social was the same of this other guy that had real bad credit and it took us awhile to get it cleared up from transunion. I would call the credit company and contest the report, there willl be an area that you can check that this was not your account. remember there are idenity thefts and hope you are not a victim of this, I would get a copy, and try to clear your name. It would also not hurt to call a lawyer or a credit counciler. If you did not make these charges the sooner you act on it the better. Who cares if it is someone in your family? They did not care what they did or is doing to you! Fight this hard and now. If you don't, you will never be able to get credit or even get a place of your own, or a car, and now they do credit checks to get a good job! hey, it is up to you, homeless and hungry, or fight for yourself regaurdless of who done it or fight the mistake. You probable could sue the companies of those who turned you in since you never made the charges, I mean sue big time! Any lawyer would take this case.
Oh my sounds like Identify theft. Contact the Law and file a report with all the bureaus obtain your reports and contact the companies (all ) listed on your report and tell them what happened you will need the police report.
So if a family member steals your identity and ruins your credit,,,that's ok with you?
You won't be able to find out who did it until the police have investigated it. And that will require a police report for identity theft. You don't have any other options.
If you want to protect someone, you better ask them to admit to doing it, or else they will be prosecuted.
But you MUST get this fixed immediately. And that means filing a police report, canceling all of those accounts, filing reports with the credit reporting agencies, and contacting everyone with an open account in your name. They will want an afidavit swearing that it wasn't you who opened the account.
This was not an accident. I can see maybe one or two accounts being that.but you are saying there are many accounts out there.
No, this is ID Theft. Handle it quickly or you will be very sorry in the future.
You have to claim with the credit reporting companies and Chexsystems, that these accounts are fraudulent and you are a victim of identity theft. Call them up and ask them what they need for you to prove who you are and that these accounts are not yours. You don't have to prove WHO did it, just that they are not yours. Each has there own requirements, so I would get on the ball and find out what they want from you to get this off your records.
