How do I find out who an 800 # belongs to?

my kid got ripped off by a magazine sales scam over the phone. All he has is the phone # and an - I'm sure - bogus "tracking" number. I'm trying to track down the company.

You could do a reverse search on the number. There are several different sites that will do the search. NetSleuth is fairly accurate, and works good.

Also, if he paid by credit card, he can do a charge back. Have you called the company yet? From experience, I can tell you, that if this is not a legit offer, they will (without hesitation) cancel the order. It's worth a shot.

1. Call the credit card company (or bank) and ask for the full receipt and merchant information, they have to give it to you and dispute the charge. They should be able to help you with this.
2. Go to anywho.com and click on the reverse directory tab. Then type in your own phone number and be amazed!
3. put it in quotation marks and run it through a search engine like yahoo (do I get extra pts for the kiss up?) or google

If you immediatly contact the bank about this, you should be able to at least get an investigation. Good luck
